Gonzalo is a Research Economist at the What Works Centre for Local Economic Growth, where he helps design, deliver, manage impact evaluations that the Centre develops with local partners.
Gonzalo’s main interest lie in the intersection between data collection, experimental evaluations and policy, in topics related to economic growth and development. Previously, he conducted a large-scale randomised controlled trial across the UK to shed light on consumer behaviour, and optimal pricing for products imported from developing countries, while working as a Research Officer at the Department of International Development for the London School of Economics (LSE).
In the past, he was a consultant in Mexico, where he advised local governments and firms on private sector development, competitiveness, public polices and growth strategies. Gonzalo has also worked as consultant for the World Bank, UNICEF and Oxford Policy Management. In addition, he has a vast experience in the field of international development in Africa, Latin America and the Middle East.
