09:15 – 10:00 Wednesday 11th December

The green transition necessary to deliver on the UK’s net zero commitment will have impacts on all parts of the country, and the government is keen to drive this agenda in a way that generates growth. But is ‘green growth’ a contradiction in terms? What does green growth mean for different parts of the UK?. But is ‘green growth’ a contradiction in terms? What does green growth mean for different parts of the UK?

How will green sectors affect productivity, wages, or employment in different areas? Are there elements that can make green growth more effective?

In 45 minutes we’ll cover two presentations and have time for a short Q&A at the end.

Esin Serin will draw on findings from the Economy 2030 Inquiry and the ongoing collaboration between CEP, GRI, POID and PRINZ on green growth to shed light on the opportunities and challenges in different parts of the UK, and how policymakers can most effectively navigate them. This presentation will show how different types of data and evidence can assist policymakers when thinking about these issues, drawing particularly from the report Growing clean: Identifying and investing in sustainable growth opportunities.

What Works Growth will raise important economic issues to consider, and how our existing evidence resources can help think through local policy levers.

Speakers:

Esin Serin, Policy Fellow at the Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment
